Understand fixed deposit rates and returns
How FD maturity is calculated
For a cumulative fixed deposit, interest is added to the deposit balance. Our FD calculator assumes quarterly compounding: maturity = deposit × (1 + annual rate / 400)^(months / 3). Interest earned is maturity minus the original deposit.
Compare FD rates for the same tenure
A bank’s highest FD interest rate may apply only to a specific deposit period. Choose the same tenure and category for each bank. If no matching rate is available, we show that explicitly rather than substitute another slab.
Senior citizen FD rates
Some lenders offer eligible senior citizens an additional interest rate. Select the senior category to use the records available in our database. Confirm age eligibility, deposit limits and scheme conditions directly with the lender.
Maturity is an estimate, not take-home income
The displayed maturity excludes tax and TDS. Monthly or quarterly payout deposits, premature withdrawals and lender rounding can produce different results. Compare payout terms and withdrawal conditions along with the rate.
